One day, start to finish
Michigan requires 8 hours of training (5 hours classroom, 3 hours range time). Most instructors run it in a single day, so plan for about 9 hours on site including breaks, and you finish with the certificate you need to apply.
Beginners welcome
These classes are built for first-time shooters. You will cover safe handling, the law, and live-fire fundamentals from the ground up.
No pistol required

A Michigan CPL lets you carry concealed anywhere in the state, subject to posted pistol-free zones, and the license runs 4 to 5 years before renewal.
Your 8 hours at a glance
- 5 hours of classroom instruction covering safe storage and handling, ammunition and shooting fundamentals, firearms and the law, use of deadly force, and avoiding a violent confrontation.
- 3 hours on a firing range.
- At least 30 rounds of live fire during the range qualification.
- A certificate of completion that states the course complies with section 5j of 1927 PA 372 and carries the instructor name, signature, and certification details.
